They aren't dolls, they are human, they have my feelings, mind, and soul. They are my other self, but they look at me objectively.
He was born in Tohkamachi in Niigata prefecture in 1953.
He started to make dolls in his infancy.
Tohkamachi is famous for textiles.
He started to make dolls with yarn and mud.
When he was teenager, he was bent on making dolls with Japanese paper.
As He tried to find his way, he found his place of self-expression in art.
He majored in Japanese painting from Tokyo Art University.
He practices traditional Japanese painting, side by side with making dolls.
Yosouemon is a name taken from his ancestors.
・Are they men, women, or both?
They are gods, they rule over the world,
they are both sexes.
・Why are their faces different to each other?
Because they are my ideality. I want express what lurks in my mind.
・There is an image regarded as intuitive.
I get an image from the materials, then I make a doll, or I have an image for a doll, and then I get the materials.
・The material used should be mentioned
The princess of rats…Japanese embroidery(cherry blossoms)・ 5m of cloth was used for the collar.
The king of the oxen…Discoloured silver leaf was used.
The god of the tigers…200m of string was cut into to pieces and twined together and then stiffened to
make the hair.
The prince of the rabbits…The obi is embroidery with bead.
The princess of the dragons…A sake cup・The shells
The god of the snakes…Snake skin・An obi・ Figured satin
The horse in the heaven…String was wrapped around the body.・ The bells・The laces
The god of the sheep…The eggshells・An obi・Tsumami-zaiku (A kind of technique to shape
small pieces cloth with a pair of tweezers and stick it.)
A battle between the monkey gods…A chest of drawers・ A thin belt on the obi・Feather
The spirit of the cocks…Cloth that Yosouemon dyed.
The god of the dogs…A battledore
The celesital maiden of the boars…Koto (Japanese harp)・Pig skin・Alminium line
